Okay, so the goals are to increase the number of people vaccinated against Covid-19 and to prop up the sagging economy. How to accomplish these goals? Quite easily actually, since we have already established that throwing money at our problems is the only thing our so called leaders can actually do, besides pander to special interests and Wall Street. So, here’s how to reach our two pronged objective: Step 1 – come up with your target vaccination level, say for our example 80%. Step 2 – come up with an amount of money for a one time direct payment like those that we have already been sent, but much more. I suggest $25,000, this would be enough to motivate the people who are apathetic about the vaccine, which I believe is the majority of those as yet unvaccinated. When the target vaccination percentage is reached in a particular state, release the payments to the citizens of that state. Unfair that the people who still didn’t take the vaccine get checks? Fine, then make it a direct quid pro quo, checks for shots, individually, with the first batch to those already vaxed.
Why do I think that a large percentage of the unvaccinated are apathetic? I know people, in general as well as specifically. And so do most of you readers. How many of the people that you know who are worried about catching Covid-19 and getting sick or dying from it? Not very many, unless you are part of an outlier group with a high risk factor or know people who are. And this is natural. Slightly less than 50% of people get a flu shot, which is about where Covid-19 vaccination is stuck. No, Covid-19 is not influenza, but it is another respiratory virus with similar symptoms. If you want to pull the apathetic unvaccinated and many of the ideological unvaccinated off the sidelines, bribe them. Yes, the ideological reluctant can be bought. Most of the rich country club Republicans already have their shots. The poor trailer park Republicans are the majority of the holdouts. They will go for the $$$$$. In the long run, it will be cheaper than the cost of another shutdown, or even a voluntary pull back by frightened consumers. And they will be frightened, our fear-porn spewing government media complex and Dr. Doom, Anthony “The Science” Fauci will see to that.
Before you start with vaccine mandates, remember how fondly mask mandates were received. Mandates will cause holdouts to dig in even harder. We’ve already blown tens of trillions on this bizarre collective hysteria. Is a few more trillion going to finally be the straw that breaks our economic camel’s back? If so, then its too late already anyway. Get the vaccination rate up to a target percentage so that further economic and social damage can be averted, and we might have a fighting chance to reboot the crashed system.
